Mayor Making Ceremony

They experienced the occasion celebrating Cllr Jeanette Curtis’ appointment as Mayor and were invited to speak to the audience.  They spoke confidently about what it means to be a Gold UNICEF Rights Respecting School, explaining key articles from the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child and how these shape everyday life at R A Butler. They also shared their role as school councillors and their current campaign, “20 is Plenty”, to improve road safety on South Road.  They brought together the hard work we do on oracy and public speaking, their understanding of children’s rights through our UNICEF Rights Respecting School journey, and the action they take as school councillors.  We are incredibly proud of them all.
