Early Years Foundation Stage (Reception)

Mrs Aiken - EYFS Lead

The Early Years classrooms at RAB have a mix of rich and irresistible playful learning opportunities for children. The school day is split into adult directed learning and child initiated Active Learning. Continuous and Enhanced Provision are on offer during Active Learning. Adults engage with children during this Active Learning time to ensure they are moving children’s learning forward and addressing their next steps. Adult Directed learning takes place throughout the year and is a designated time to address specific learning with the children. This can be as a whole-class, small group work or 1:1. The balance of these learning opportunities will change as the year progresses.

During Active Learning children are given opportunities to:

  • be willing to have a go (risk taking)

  • be involved and concentrating (resilience)

  • have their own ideas (aRticulate)

  • choose ways to do things (resourceful)

  • find new ways of doing things (reflective)

  • enjoy achieving what they set out to do (respectful relationships)

  • be challenged by adults to take ‘next steps’ in their learning
